Among the first commercial IBM-compatible laptops were the IBM PC Convertible, introduced in 1986, and two Toshiba models, the T1000 and T1200, introduced in 1987. The “first real” laptop – the Toshiba T1000 – was equipped with a 4.77 MHz 80C88 Intel processor, 512 kB (640 kB) RAM and the Toshiba MS-DOS 2.11 operating system in read-only memory. The T1000 listed for $999, although it was often available for a few hundred dollars less.
